Baltimore police divers recount response to Key Bridge collapse

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge is a scene few will soon forget — especially for Baltimore's first responders who saw it up close. Body camera video captured the raw reaction from the first city police officers arriving on land at Fort Armistead on that harrowed morning. "That's the Key Bridge. I mean, that's the Key Bridge. Key Bridge! Wow. That ship that's underneath lost its steering," an officer is heard saying on the video. Members of the Baltimore Police Department's Underwater Recovery Team arrived to support the response from the water. The team recently invited 11 News to one of its training days in Canton — ultimately going out to the collapse site itself — to talk about what they experienced and how it affected them. Baltimore police Underwater Recovery Team Sgt. Steve Lepper and officer Corey Valis were the first two BPD divers in the water.
