Maryland will feel the brunt of massive job cuts announced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of a major restructuring plan. Thursday's announcement indicated HHS will go from 82,000 to 62,000 positions, which includes 10,000 in layoffs as well as another 10,000 workers who are taking early retirements or buyout offers that were given to nearly all federal employees by the Trump administration. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized the department he oversees as an inefficient "sprawling bureaucracy" in a video announcing the restructuring Thursday. He faulted the department's 82,000 workers for a decline in Americans' health.
