Mafia - Rise and Fall | 1920s Prequel Mod | 1440p60 | Longplay Full Mod Walkthrough No Commentary

Longplay of Rise and Fall, a full game-length fan-made campaign/story mod for Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven, developed by 7K Czech modding team, with OravinCZ as the head modder in the team, released in a complete version (Parts I and II + Finale) on 8th June 2024. Here played on the GOG version of Mafia, with a widescreen hack/fixes enabled, at 2560x1440, max details, LODs pushed out, Draw Distance too. Soundtrack is from this mod (still copyrighted, no ads). Recorded at 1440p60 H.265 HEVC via OBS.

Note: Part One of this mod has English AI dubbing, which was not made by the mod team themselves, but a fellow modder, and so this is an option, but not the intended one, as starting with Part Two, the dubbing is only in Czech, not AI. Subtitles are there for the most part, but this mod DOES have issues with the subtitles just completely missing. Which mean - I understood like 50-60% of the things said in the game, since I'm Polish, and our languages are in the same close family of languages. BUT - you probably won't understand a thing. Which means:

Mod's synopsis from ModDB: Our story takes place in early 1920's. That means 10 years before story of first Mafia. Story is looking at leading of Don Peppone. The goal of our modification is to show that Don Peppone was not just a character on the list. It was somebody, who ruled the city of Lost Heaven without big enemies. Whoever crossed his path had never heard of him again. His right hand and left hand were Ennio Salieri and Marcu Morello. But every story has it's own RISE and FALL.

First time I recorded a mod for Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. And oh boy, I might have started with the biggest and the most ambitious one ever. Rise and Fall is a prequel to original Mafia, taking place during 1920s, when Morello and Salieri fought other mafias hand in hand, as part of Don Peppone's family. Basically... a prequel, that does not go as far as the incoming Mafia: The Old Country! That happens in 1900s in Sicily, this in 1920s in Lost Heaven.

I am actually very glad I sit down to recorded some Mafia fan-made goodness. There is more to come! But, about Rise and Fall - I rated it 8/10 as far as mods to great games go. The gameplay, the style, the visuals - it's all from Mafia, and it's as good as it was back in 2002. The story here - it's absolutely believable, and sensible, and I applaud the modders here, it's something that we could expect of Mafia's prequel.

Main issue I noticed are two things, well, three things. First one is a big problem - scripts. Many instances of them not working, bugging out, unable to progress, softlocks etc. When it happens it sucks a lot. But they work, usually. Second one - crashes. I guess it crashed due to the engine, and nothing could be done about it, but the mod crashed for me more often than unmodded game. The third one - difficulty level. I know modders gonna be modders, but holy shiet boys, please don't make your mods (I say it to every modder out there) a sort of "who can git gud more" contest, it's at times so over the top it's insane. xD Especially the endings - many, many retries. And the difficulty was also not evenly spread, Part One is easy, maybe even too easy, but Part Two and Finale are the opposite of that.

BUT, to sum it all up - 8/10, great job, exactly the sort of mod I would love to see made for a game I love. And I do hope it happens for every great classic out there eventually, it's a great thing! This mod actually has DLCs btw - I've recorded two of them - Pre-Fall II (I is bugged and pulled out), and After The Fall, soooo a prequel DLC and sequel DLC. That will all come in a separate video, soonTM. Aaaaaand some other separate mods too!
