the most terrible battle in history ww2

Fakta sejarah

in July 1942 when the German 6th Army, under the command of General Friedrich Paulus, began their attack towards Stalingrad. Initially, the Germans managed to push forward and approach the city quickly, destroying many parts of the city with intense air and artillery attacks. However, the Soviet Red Army under the command of General Vasily Chuikov defended the city tenaciously, fighting street to street and house to house in extremely difficult conditions. The fighting inside Stalingrad was extremely brutal, often referred to as one of the cruelest battles in the history of modern warfare. Soviet and German troops fought in close quarters, often in the ruins of buildings, factories and bunkers, where every inch of land was fiercely contested. The messy terrain and freezing winter added to the suffering of the soldiers on both sides. This battle is also known as the "Rattenkrieg" or "Rat War" because the soldiers fought underground, in sewers and ruins that resembled rat nests. Both sides suffered huge casualties, with many soldiers dying from wounds, starvation, and cold.
