When did games become so soft?

I want to talk about the downfall of games from 2004 to 2024, or from 2010 to 2024 depending on how you look at it.

Fallout New Vegas and San Andreas represented watermark games that people loved in the industry. Now we have trash like the Saints Row reboot. What changed?
