A surviving animation from the chainsaw that seems to occurs when the framerate is far from what the game initially intended, I deciced to take a look to understand how it works in the PS2 version and if it was repeatable. Unfortunaly not without hacks, here's how it works:
The game initializes a first timer to 0 (which is the progression of Leon's current frame animation), which increases by 1.0 per frame, if it reaches 119 or more it starts the surviving animation
At the same time it sets a second timer at 41, which decreases by 1 each frame, if it reaches 0 it starts the death animation. As the framerate on PS2 is fixed, everything works correctly and this was made possible by removing the second timer
Also, if you aim at the end of the animation, Leon has a shift to the left
