This unique building, reminiscent of the architecture of the great communal palaces of northern Europe, is located at the top of Avenida dos Aliados.
Robust and imposing work, whose construction began in 1920, with a project by the architect António Correia da Silva, it would only be definitively ready in 1955

The statue placed in front, work done by the sculptor Barata Feyo, in 1954, represents the poet Almeida Garrett (1799-1854).
