Waterloo 1970 movie starring Rod Steiger and Christopher Plummer, in an epic history drama film, by Dino de Laurentis and directed by Sergei Bondarchuk. The big battle fought between Napoleon Bonaparte and Duke of Wellington, on Sunday, June 18th,1815, is depicted in great depth, using the Russian army as ten thousand+ extras for the combat scenes.
The fan cut portion of this movie is an extension of two minutes that pay tribute to the tens of thousands of soldiers that were sadly ignored in this movie. Namely, the 65% of Wellington's army who were not British. The soldiers given mention by me at the end of the video are the Germans, Hanoverians, Brunswickers, Nassauers, Dutch, and Belgian troops.
Also mentioned is the Prince of Orange who is controversially known for his tactical blunders that led to great loss of life in the Waterloo campaign.
- However; An astute historian of the period's events will recognize the immense important role the Prince of Orange played by allowing his Netherlands staff officers to disobey Wellington's initial orders to retreat away from the essential Quatre-Bras crossroads on June 15th.
Furthermore, the Prince was fearless by showing up in hot spots during raging combat, which boosted the morale of the non-British troops. He was crucial in keeping Wellington's line from falling apart in various places during the Battle of Waterloo. He definitely deserved to be portrayed with an active role during the movie.
