A fierce storm hit Malta and Sicily! The head of the rescue service warned people to stay away from coastal areas due to rough seas and not to be outdoors unnecessarily. The south of Sicily was the worst affected by the storm: La Sicilia reported power outages, flooded roads and uprooted trees.
The services are fully prepared for any surprises.
"The sea is very rough and people should avoid being close to the shore," said the chief lifeguard.
The Gozo Canal has had to cut back and suspend some of its sailings due to rough seas disrupting the moorings at the Chirkevwa terminal. Food delivery companies Wolt and Bolt have warned customers of possible delays and temporarily suspended some of their delivery services.
Meanwhile, the weather service at Malta International Airport has issued an orange warning level as the weather is expected to worsen. "Winds from west to east and northeast will be very strong over the Maltese Islands, reaching hurricane force over unprotected areas," the Met Office warned.
