Corvette E-Ray First Look: How Chevy Added A Hybrid System To The C8 Chassis

The new hybrid Corvette E-Ray is finally here after years of delays and fan speculation. Whether the idea of adding an electric motor and all-wheel-drive to the C8's chassis sounds good (or not), Chevy always planned to add more drivetrain options to the C8 from the very beginning. And to prove it, they brought a full-on cutaway car to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles to show off the compact packaging of all the new electronic components.

Now with 655 horsepower (or 15 fewer than the Z06) and all-wheel-drive traction, the E-Ray should be the fastest-ever Corvette capable of a 0-60 time as low as 2.5 seconds and a quarter-mile in only 10.5 seconds. That's thanks largely to plenty of weight-saving carbon-fiber and magnesium that result in only around 300 additional pounds as a tradeoff for 160 more ponies. Watch as HotCars contributor Michael Van Runkle takes a closer look at the new E-Ray and reveals everything that goes into hybridizing an already borderline supercar for the masses.
